Elf…. the hit West End and Broadway musical, based on the popular movie starring Will Ferrell, is to be super sized into a Christmas Spectacular version for an arena tour at Genting Arena, Birmingham, Motorpoint Arena Cardiff and Motorpoint Arena Nottingham, during December 2018.
The cast will be headed by pop legend David Essex as Buddy’s dad, with 'Love Actually’ movie star Martine McCutcheon playing Buddy’s girl friend Jovie. The part of Buddy the elf will be played by comedy actor Tam Ryan, who counts Priscilla Presley amongst his past leading ladies, with West End star Louise English as Buddy’s step mum. The cast will also feature Father Christmas and a cast of 70 performers including children from local PQA stage schools.
David Essex has played the lead in musicals from Evita to War of the Worlds and is particularly looking forward to playing the grumpy and unwitting father of Buddy the elf.
“I’m looking forward to the big special effects that include a sleigh flying across the arena, an indoor snow blizzard, skating scenes, an iceberg journey from the North Pole and blending with this perfect Christmas story."
Martine McCutcheon added
"I’m delighted to appear in one of everybody’s favourite Christmas movies.”
Tam Ryan is stepping into the big floppy shoes of Will Ferrell. “This is such a great opportunity to bring laughter and pathos playing one of the great movie characters. My favourite bit will be when we get a team of cirque stars to encourage the audience to decorate the whole arena for Christmas!”
The show will be produced by WBP Ltd, the team behind last years spectacular Peter Pan in Birmingham and Wembley.
